Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead projects in the energy and petrochemical sectors. You will interface with clients to capture expectations and drive delivery with a lead engineer role across multiple projects.

The role requires a BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering with about eight years of contracting experience, plus experience in brownfield projects and NEC awareness. ECSA registration is preferable and on-site scoping is expected.

Qualifications

• BSc./B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering degree with 8 years' contracting industry experience in energy and chemical/refining/petrochemical projects.
• Professional Registration with ECSA is preferable.
• Working knowledge of NEC would be an added advantage.
• Experience in brownfield project execution.

Responsibilities

• Interact with the client to understand and deliver to client's expectations.
• Perform lead engineer role on various projects.
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews.
• Plan manpower and manage project schedules for projects where a lead engineer role is held.
• Perform scoping exercises on site.
• Design and specify pressure containing equipment.
• Prepare project standards, engineering and technical specifications.
• Prepare Miscellaneous Construction Files/MCFDs.
• Issue technical specifications and enquiry documentation to vendors and review vendor documentation for design integrity.
• Prepare Scope of Work / Works Information for services and manage consultants to meet scope, quality and schedule.

Your responsibilities

• Interaction with the client to understand and deliver to Client's expectations.
• Performing lead engineer role on various projects.
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the projects where a lead engineer role is held.
• Perform scoping exercises on site
• Specification and design of pressure containing equipment
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications
• Preparation of MCFDs
• Proficient in preparation and issuing technical specifications and enquiry documentation to vendors and subsequent review of vendor documentation to ensure design integrity and compliance with specifications.
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.

Your profile

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering degree with 8 years engineering experience in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.

Professional Registration with ECSA is preferable.

A working knowledge of NEC would be an added advantage

Experience in brownfield project execution.
