Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa seeks a Senior Process Engineer to join the Process Engineering Department in Johannesburg. You will lead process design deliverables, coordinating with clients as part of an owner’s team and ensuring project quality from feasibility through commissioning.

Responsibilities include leading PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOP and SIL assessments, 3D model critiques, and manpower planning for the process group.

Qualifications

• BSc. Chemical Engineering degree with 12–15 years of engineering experience.
• 8 years in a contracting environment on energy and chemical/refining/petrochemical projects.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Process Engineer with relevant design house experience to join the Process Engineering Department.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the following job description but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Lead or participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP and SIL reviews
• Participate in 3D model and constructability reviews
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the project process team
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• Development of design basis, process flow diagrams, mass & energy balances, utility balances
• Development of piping and instrument diagrams, mechanical flow diagrams, and utility flow diagrams
• Development of process equipment (including reboilers and distillation columns) / instrument data sheets, process philosophies, equipment/ line/ tie-in/ fluid/ utility consumption/ waste & emission
• Development process philosophies, operating, safety and commissioning manuals

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in process design activities related to producing and checking process engineering deliverables.

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to function in a resource and/ or lead role on projects.

As a project process engineer, the individual will be responsible for process deliverables and quality on the project

Your profile

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc. Chemical Engineering degree with 12-15 years engineering experience of which 8 years should be in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.

Lead Engineer Experience

Professional Registration with ECSA is required.

The successful candidate must have successfully performed in the position of lead engineer on at least 3 large projects in the basic and detail engineering phase. The candidate must have participated in commissioning and plant start-up.
