Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Mechanical Engineering Department. You will lead mechanical design activities, coordinate with clients as part of the owner’s team, and deliver scope for rotating equipment and construction support across project phases from feasibility to commissioning.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc./BEng in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of experience (15+ preferred) and Professional Registration with ECSA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ engineering experience; 15+ years preferred.
• Lead engineer responsibilities across project phases including feasibility to commissioning.
• Experience contracting on energy/chemical refining and petrochemical projects.
• Registered with ECSA or eligible for professional registration.

Responsibilities

• Interact with clients as part of the owner’s team and lead the project mechanical team.
• Perform lead engineer duties and manpower/schedule management for the mechanical team.
• Prepare scope of work and information for consultants and vendors.
• Design rotating equipment and packaged units and review specifications.
• Contribute to PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOP/SIL reviews, 3D modeling, constructability reviews.
• Prepare MCFDs and issue technical specifications and enquiry documentation.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with relevant design house experience to join the Mechanical Engineering Department.

• The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:
• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the project mechanical team.
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• Specification and design of rotating equipment and packaged units
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Assistance in the preparation of MCFDs
• Proficient in preparation and issuing technical specifications and enquiry documentation to vendors and subsequent review of vendor documentation to ensure design integrity and compliance with specifications.
  • Knowledge of the following international design codes and standards is mandatory:
  • API 610 / API 682
  • API 614 / API 617 / API 618 / API 619 / API 672
  • ASME VIII Division 1
  • ASME B31.3
  • Knowledge of the following international design codes will be an advantage:
  • NFPA 20

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in mechanical design activities related to producing and checking mechanical engineering deliverables.

The individual will be responsible for mechanical deliverables and quality/ technical quality assurance on the project.

Your profile

• The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ BEng. Mechanical Engineering degree with 10 years engineering experience. 15+ years of experience is preferable.
• Experience in contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries is required.
• Lead Engineer Experience
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.
• The candidate must have participated in commissioning and plant start-up.
• The candidate must have refrigerated LPG, cryogenic storage, terminal, marine, EPC and brownfields experience. Strong LPG experience is essential.
• Experience with relevant codes for LPG facilities.
