Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to lead design activities across feasibility, concept, basic and detail engineering phases for energy and chemical projects.

You will interact with clients as part of the owner's team, perform lead engineer duties, manage manpower and schedules, and ensure deliverables meet scope, quality and budget while coordinating with other disciplines.

Qualifications

• BSc Civil Engineering degree with 12–15 years engineering experience, incl. 8 years in contracting environment in energy/chemical/refining industries; reinforced concrete and structural steel experience essential.
• Professional registration with ECSA is required.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer with relevant design house experience to join our Civil & Structural Engineering team.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the project process team
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• Execute projects within schedule and budget
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Liaise with other engineering disciplines and gather information required for the structural designs
• Preparation of Design criteria and specifications
• The ability to interpret MFD’s and P&ID’s

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in civil/ structural design activities related to producing and checking civil/ structural engineering deliverables.

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to function in a resource and/ or lead role on projects.

As a project civil/ structural engineer, the individual will be responsible for civil/ structural deliverables and quality on the project

Your profile

• The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc. Civil Engineering degree with 12-15 years engineering experience of which 8 years should be in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries. Experience with the emphasis on reinforced concrete and structural steel engineering is essential.
• Lead Engineer Experience
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.
• The successful candidate must have successfully performed in the position of lead engineer on at least 3 large projects in the basic and detail engineering phase.
