Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Bioprocess Engineer to optimize and scale biopharmaceutical production in Vereeniging. You will design and manage bioprocessing workflows, troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, and contribute to next-gen bioprocessing technologies.

The role requires 7+ years in biopharma process development, deep knowledge of upstream and downstream operations, and strong GMP/regulatory experience. Collaboration with manufacturing, QA, and regulatory teams is essential.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in biopharmaceutical process development and manufacturing.
• In-depth knowledge of upstream (cell culture) and downstream (purification) bioprocessing operations.
• Experience with process modeling, statistical analysis, and Design of Experiments (DoE).
• Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, optimize, and scale up bioprocesses for the production of biologics.
• Manage and operate large-scale bioreactors, cell culture systems, and downstream purification equipment.
• Conduct process validation, troubleshoot deviations, and implement CAPAs.
• Analyze process data to identify opportunities for improvement in yield, efficiency, and product quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs.
