Job summary

First Point Group is seeking a Senior/Intermediate DevOps Engineer (AWS) for a 12-month contract in Cape Town, South Africa. The role focuses on building secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and migrating PayFast to Kubernetes, with CI/CD and agile delivery practices.

You will monitor systems, manage IaC tooling, configure databases, and troubleshoot complex issues across the stack. Relevant AWS/kubernetes certifications are required or advantageous.

Qualifications

• AWS Cloud Infrastructure certification is required.
• Docker and Kubernetes experience is essential.
• Jenkins and/or GitLab CI for CI/CD pipelines.
• Scripting in Bash, Python, PHP, Perl, Java or Go.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet or SaltStack.
• Experience with Apache, Nginx, FPM and/or Node.
• Load balancing and AWS RDS (MariaDB/MySQL).
• Redis, MongoDB and other NoSQL technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain security, IT best practices, system configuration, and operational procedures
• Monitor systems using applications, log files, ELK/OpenSearch, and system checks
• Build and migrate PayFast to Kubernetes
• Maintain configuration and build management systems
• Manage database maintenance and implementations
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex server and user-environment issues
• Support CI, testing and release management
• Manage firewall administration, security incidents and patching
• Research and evaluate new technologies
• Work within Agile planning and delivery environments
