Job summary

Work Africa is seeking an Assistant Retail Manager for its East London FMCG operation. You will lead a team, drive sales targets, and ensure excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires 2–3 years' relevant retail management experience, stock control expertise, and strong numerical/administrative skills. Willingness to work retail hours, weekends and holidays is essential.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 essential.
• 2–3 years’ experience in an Assistant Manager, Supervisor or similar retail management role.
• Previous FMCG / grocery / retail experience essential.
• Proven experience in staff supervision and customer service.
• Experience working with stock, inventory and merchandising.
• Strong sales and target-driven ability.
• Computer literate – MS Office and relevant POS systems.
• Good numerical and administrative skills.
• Willingness to work retail hours, weekends and public holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Retail Manager in daily operations and drive sales.
• Lead and supervise retail staff to ensure high service standards.
• Manage stock, inventory and merchandising accuracy.
• Protect assets and optimize loss prevention.
• Deliver excellent customer service and resolve issues.
• Prepare basic reports and support administrative tasks.
• Coordinate rosters for weekends and public holidays.
