Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an accomplished Transportation Engineer to join our Rustenburg team. You will design, plan, and implement transportation solutions that improve mobility and safety across urban and rural environments.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree with a Transportation specialization, is a Pr Eng or eligible, and has 7+ years of experience. The role offers remote work flexibility within South Africa and opportunities to influence regional infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA or eligibility.
• At least 7 years of professional experience in transportation engineering.
• Proficiency in traffic analysis and modeling software such as VISSIM, SIDRA, and Aimsun.
• Strong knowledge of traffic engineering, highway design, and geometric standards.
• Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) for design/drafting.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proven project management and team leadership abilities.
• Familiarity with South African road design standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and optimize transportation systems including roadways, intersections, and public transit networks.
• Conduct traffic studies, volume counts, capacity analyses, and simulations using VISSIM, SIDRA, or Aimsun.
• Develop traffic control plans, signage plans, and pavement markings.
• Prepare engineering reports, design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with government agencies, municipalities, and stakeholders to meet objectives.
• Evaluate feasibility of new projects and propose innovative solutions.
• Ensure compliance with national and local transportation standards and regulations.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance on transportation projects.
• Contribute to long-term transportation planning strategies.
• Review designs and documents prepared by junior engineers and external consultants.
