Placements24 is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to work remotely, handling finances for multiple SME clients across South Africa. You will manage day-to-day bookkeeping, process payables/receivables, and perform reconciliations while ensuring VAT and tax compliance.

Strong software proficiency (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage One) and attention to detail are essential. This fully remote role offers flexible hours and varied client work.

Qualifications

• Must have 3+ years of proven bookkeeping experience across multiple SME clients.
• Relevant bookkeeping qualification (SAIB/ICBA) is highly desirable.
• Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage One.
• Solid understanding of South African VAT, income tax and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple SME clients.
• Process accounts payable and receivable accurately.
• Perform bank and card reconciliations regularly.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate transactions.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and statutory filings.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closings.
• Generate financial reports (trial balance, income statement, balance sheet).
• Maintain organized financial records for easy retrieval.
• Communicate with clients to gather information and resolve queries.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.
