Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our client’s team in a fully remote capacity across South Africa. You will design, analyze, and operate electrical power systems for generation, transmission, and distribution projects, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and safety while collaborating with a distributed team.

The role emphasizes advanced power-flow studies, protection schemes, and system optimization.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in power system analysis and design.
Proficiency with power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, PowerWorld).
Strong understanding of power system components, protection relays, and control systems.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

Perform power flow, short circuit, stability, and reliability studies for electrical power systems.
Design and specify electrical equipment for power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
Develop and implement protection schemes and control strategies for power systems.
Analyze system performance, identify potential issues, and recommend solutions to enhance reliability and efficiency.
Collaborate with project managers, field engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Contribute to the development of standards, procedures, and best practices for power system design and operation.
