Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Payroll Accountant to manage the full payroll cycle for employees across divisions from a remote location in South Africa. You will ensure accurate calculations, deductions, tax submissions, and reporting in line with SA labour laws and company policies.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, 3–5 years in payroll, and proficiency with VIP Payroll, Sage VIP, PaySpace, and MS Excel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of direct payroll accounting experience.
• In-depth knowledge of South African payroll legislation, tax rules, and SARS submissions.
• Proficiency with VIP Payroll, Sage VIP, PaySpace and MS Excel.
• Experience in a remote or distributed team is highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage and process the entire payroll cycle for all employees accurately and on time.
• Ensure correct calculation of salaries, wages, overtime, bonuses, and other compensation elements.
• Administer statutory deductions, including PAYE, UIF, and SDL, and ensure timely submissions to relevant authorities.
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update personal information, banking details, and other relevant data.
• Reconcile payroll reports with general ledger entries to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, and other relevant South African legislation.
• Process and manage employee benefits, including medical aid and retirement fund contributions.
• Generate and distribute payroll reports to management and other stakeholders as required.
• Handle employee queries related to payroll and provide clear explanations.
• Participate in audits related to payroll and provide necessary supporting documentation.
