Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Payroll Accountant to manage all aspects of payroll processing. The role can be performed remotely with flexible hours, supporting our HR and Finance teams from anywhere in South Africa.

You will ensure accurate payroll, maintain records, administer benefits, and stay compliant with SA labor laws and tax regulations. A proactive approach to resolving discrepancies and strong communication are essential for success in this remote, growing organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3–5 years of payroll processing experience.
• Proficiency with payroll software (Sage, VIP Payroll, EasyPay) and HRIS.
• Strong knowledge of South African labor laws and tax regulations.
• Analytical, detail-oriented, and able to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll accurately and timely.
• Enter new hires, terminations, and changes in pay/benefits.
• Administer employee benefits programs and leave policies.
• Calculate and reconcile payroll taxes in compliance with regs.
• Prepare payroll reports for management and finance.
• Resolve employee inquiries regarding payroll and deductions.
• Stay updated on payroll laws and regulations.
• Audit payroll data and identify discrepancies.
• Collaborate with HR on onboarding/offboarding related to payroll.
• Manage relationships with third-party payroll/benefits providers.
