Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to design and optimize building systems for commercial and residential projects. This remote‑first role focuses on HVAC, plumbing, and integrated mechanical services, with Durban‑area projects guiding primary engagement.

You will perform load calculations, energy modeling, and layouts, collaborating with architects and engineers worldwide. A Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of experience are required, along with proficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years designing mechanical systems for buildings with HVAC/plumbing focus.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and energy modeling tools (Trane TRACE, HAP).
• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and building science.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills for remote work.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage time, and meet deadlines remotely.
• Familiarity with sustainable design and LEED credentials.
• Experience with international building codes is a plus.
• Reliable home office setup for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer integrated mechanical systems for new constructions and renovations.
• Perform load calculations, sizing, and energy modeling.
• Create detailed mechanical layouts, schematics, and construction documents.
• Review plans to ensure proper integration with other disciplines.
• Select equipment considering performance, cost, and maintainability.
• Collaborate remotely with architects, electrical engineers, PMs, and clients.
• Provide technical support during construction and review submittals.
• Research new technologies and sustainable practices to improve efficiency.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards.
• Prepare reports, feasibility studies, and performance analyses.
