Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Remote Mechanical Design Engineer for a renowned consumer appliances manufacturer. Fully remote within South Africa, you will design mechanical components and assemblies for new and existing product lines using CAD tools, with emphasis on manufacturability and reliability.

You will collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and software developers in a virtual team, create 3D models and BOMs, run basic FEA, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in mechanical design for consumer products.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and basic FEA.
• DFM and DFA knowledge.
• Experience with plastic injection molding design and metal fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and assemblies for consumer appliances using CAD.
• Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs.
• Perform design analysis (stress, thermal, vibration) for reliability.
• Select materials and processes for mass production and cost targets.
• Collaborate with designers, electrical engineers, and software developers in a virtual setting.
• Prepare technical docs for development, testing, handover.
• Oversee prototyping and testing, iterate designs as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Support manufacturing in troubleshooting during production.
