Placements24 seeks a Remote Mechanical Design Engineer for a renowned consumer appliances manufacturer. Fully remote within South Africa, you will design mechanical components and assemblies for new and existing product lines using CAD tools, with emphasis on manufacturability and reliability.

You will collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and software developers in a virtual team, create 3D models and BOMs, run basic FEA, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in mechanical design for consumer products.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and basic FEA.
• DFM and DFA knowledge.
• Experience with plastic injection molding design and metal fabrication.

About the Role

We are actively seeking a talented Remote Mechanical Design Engineer to join our product development team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of new and existing product lines, ensuring high quality, reliability, and manufacturability. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for consumer appliances using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Conduct design analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration simulations, to ensure product performance and durability.
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, metal stamping) suitable for mass production and cost targets.
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and software developers in a virtual environment to achieve integrated product solutions.
• Prepare technical documentation for product development, testing, and manufacturing handover.
• Oversee prototyping and testing activities, analyze results, and iterate on designs as needed.
• Ensure designs meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
• Support manufacturing teams in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues during production.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on consumer product development.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and basic FEA analysis.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
• Experience with plastic injection molding design and metal fabrication processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for a remote team environment.
• Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results on time.
• Familiarity with appliance standards and testing procedures is a plus.
