Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Lead Power Systems Engineer to spearhead design and analysis of critical power infrastructure from anywhere in South Africa. You will lead a team of engineers, develop system models, and oversee grid stability, protection studies, and integration of renewables and storage.

This role requires strong remote leadership and expert knowledge of PSS/E/ETAP/PSCAD. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with regulators, and ensure compliance with global grid standards

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems
• 10+ years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, analysis, and design
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing complex projects
• Expertise in power system simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar
• In-depth knowledge of grid codes, protection schemes, and dynamic system analysis
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data
• Excellent remote communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment
• Experience with smart grid technologies and distributed energy resources is advantageous
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of complex power systems, including transmission and distribution networks
• Develop system models and perform load flow, short-circuit, stability, and protection studies using advanced simulation software
• Define system requirements, technical specifications, and operational strategies for power infrastructure
• Oversee the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems into the grid
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of power systems engineers
• Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies in a virtual setting
• Review and approve technical designs, reports, and studies prepared by the engineering team
• Ensure compliance with national and international power system standards and best practices
• Develop and implement strategies for enhancing grid reliability, resilience, and efficiency
• Contribute to long-term power system planning and investment strategies
