Placements24 is seeking an Energy Trading Analyst to join our client’s remote-first team in South Africa. The role focuses on data-driven analysis of power and gas markets, developing models, and supporting trading strategies from a home office.

You will collaborate with the trading desk, risk management, and business development, leveraging Python, R, and visualization tools to uncover opportunities and enhance profitability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy markets, with a focus on trading, analysis, or market research.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze energy market data, including prices, supply/demand fundamentals, weather patterns, and regulatory news.
• Develop and maintain complex analytical models to forecast market trends and identify trading opportunities.
• Support the trading desk by providing timely and accurate market insights and analysis.
• Evaluate the risk associated with trading positions and assist in risk management strategies.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of trading strategies and algorithms.
• Generate regular reports on market activity, trading performance, and KPIs.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and trading teams.
• Research and stay abreast of energy sector developments, including new technologies and market structures.
• Assist in back-testing and validation of trading strategies.
• Ensure data integrity across analytical platforms and reports.
