Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Remote Energy Trading Analyst to join our client’s dynamic energy trading team in South Africa. The role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere within SA, and focuses on analyzing markets, identifying trading opportunities, and supporting the desk with vital market intelligence.

The ideal candidate holds a quantitative degree with at least 4 years in energy trading or market analysis, and is proficient in Python, R, and SQL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy trading, market analysis, or a related financial role.
• Strong understanding of energy commodity markets and trading principles.
• Proficiency in data analysis, statistical modeling, and programming (Python, R, SQL).

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze global energy markets (power, gas, oil, carbon) for trading opportunities.
• Develop and implement quantitative trading strategies based on market analysis.
• Conduct fundamental and technical analysis of energy price movements.
• Prepare market reports, summaries, and trading recommendations for the trading desk.
• Collaborate remotely with traders, risk managers, and other analysts.
• Utilize data analysis tools and programming languages for research and modeling.
• Identify and assess market risks and propose hedging strategies.
• Stay informed about regulatory changes and weather patterns impacting energy markets.
• Maintain and improve market data infrastructure and analytical tools.
• Support the trading team with real-time market information and analysis.
