Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical and strategic Remote Energy Trading Strategist to develop and implement quantitative trading strategies across energy commodities. This fully remote role focuses on maximizing profitability and managing risk in the energy portfolio, with emphasis on Mahikeng, North West market dynamics.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as Financial Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy trading, quantitative analysis, or portfolio management within the energy sector.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing successful trading strategies.
• Strong quantitative and statistical modeling skills, including experience with Python, R, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Develop, backtest, and implement quantitative trading strategies for energy markets (e.g., electricity, natural gas, renewables).
• Analyze market data, price trends, and news to identify trading opportunities and risks.
• Utilize advanced statistical and machine learning models to forecast market prices and optimize trading decisions.
• Manage and monitor trading positions, ensuring adherence to risk limits and mandates.
• Collaborate with risk management teams to assess and mitigate portfolio exposures.
• Work closely with IT and quantitative development teams to enhance trading platforms and analytical tools.
• Provide market insights and strategic recommendations to senior management.
• Stay abreast of regulatory changes and market structure developments affecting energy trading.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of trading methodologies and algorithms.
• Effectively communicate complex trading strategies and market outlooks to stakeholders remotely.
