Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a remote Electrical Systems Specialist to design, analyze, and optimize large-scale electrical power systems for renewable energy projects, primarily solar and wind. You will work from anywhere in South Africa with international teams.

You will perform power flow, short-circuit, and stability analyses, develop single-line diagrams, ensure compliance with grid codes, and contribute to project documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in design of electrical power systems with a renewable energy focus.
• Proven experience with power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD).
• In-depth knowledge of grid codes, IEC/IEEE standards, and electrical safety practices.
• Experience with high-voltage equipment and substations.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, adept at remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for utility-scale solar and wind plants, including substations and grid interconnection.
• Perform power flow, short circuit, and stability analyses using simulation software.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with grid codes, standards and safety practices.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and suppliers in a remote setting.
• Provide technical reviews and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
