Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Electrical Systems Engineer to join our globally distributed team in South Africa. You will design, develop, and deploy electrical control systems for power grid automation, SCADA, RTUs, and communication protocols, working entirely remotely.

You will collaborate with project managers, software engineers, and field technicians to ensure successful deployment, perform diagnostics, and contribute to technical specifications and safety standards while staying

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical systems engineering within power utility or industrial automation environments.
• Proven experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, and communication protocols used in grid automation.
• Familiarity with power system analysis and protection principles.
• Strong understanding of networking principles and cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
• Excellent remote communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to work in a distributed team.
• Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to manage time and prioritize tasks independently.
• Experience with simulation and testing tools for control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate electrical control systems for power grid automation applications.
• Configure and program SCADA systems, RTUs, and communication protocols (e.g., DNP3, IEC 61850).
• Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and network diagrams for remote deployment.
• Collaborate remotely with project managers, software engineers, and field technicians to ensure successful system implementation and testing.
• Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and provide remote technical support to deployed systems.
• Contribute to the development of technical specifications, user manuals, and standard operating procedures.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in grid automation and propose innovative solutions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations for electrical systems.
