Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer with expertise in Power Electronics for a contract role. The position is primarily remote with occasional travel to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, focusing on design, development, simulation, and testing of power electronic converters for renewable energy, EVs, and industrial power supplies.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of hands-on experience, a strong background in power electronics, and proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, or PLECS.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Electronics.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in design and development of power electronic converters.
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, or PLECS is essential.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, magnetic components, and control theory.
• Experience with PCB layout for high-power applications and EMC design principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and simulate power electronic converters (DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC) using MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM or PLECS.
• Select components such as IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes, capacitors, and inductors.
• Develop control algorithms and firmware for power electronic systems.
• Perform thermal management analysis and ensure design integrity under various conditions.
• Conduct laboratory testing and validation of prototypes and production units.
• Troubleshoot design issues and identify root causes with corrective actions.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and mechanical engineers.
• Contribute to design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.
• Stay current with advancements in power electronics technology.
