Placements24 is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer for our client in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. The role focuses on design, development, and testing of advanced power converters for renewable energy, EVs, and industrial automation.

You will lead projects, mentor juniors, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has a master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with power electronics specialization and at least eight years of relevant experience, along with

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Electronics.
• 8+ years of professional experience in power electronics design.
• Experience designing AC-DC, DC-AC, and DC-DC converters.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, magnetic design, and control theory.
• Proficiency with SPICE tools and MATLAB/Simulink for simulations.
• DSPs and microcontrollers for control applications.
• Hands-on lab testing and measurement experience.
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills; strong communication.
• Knowledge of industry standards for power electronics is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance power electronic converters for various applications.
• Perform circuit simulations and analyses with SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Select MOSFETs, IGBTs, passives, and control ICs.
• Design magnetic components for power converters.
• Develop control algorithms and implement in DSPs or microcontrollers.
• Conduct lab testing, validation, and troubleshoot prototypes.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers on thermal management and packaging.
• Create design documentation: schematics, BOMs, test plans, reports.
• Stay updated on power semiconductor tech and converter topologies.
• Provide technical leadership to junior engineers.
