Placements24 is seeking an experienced Remote Aviation SMS Specialist to develop, implement, and manage the organization's Safety Management System. The role focuses on ICAO/SACAA-aligned frameworks, hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety audits, all performed remotely.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in aviation safety, deep SMS knowledge, and strong communication skills to influence stakeholders from a distance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in aviation management, engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in aviation safety management or related roles.
• Deep knowledge of SMS principles and frameworks (ICAO Annex 19, EASA, FAA, SACAA).
• Proven hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation planning experience.
• Familiarity with safety auditing techniques and methodologies.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and remote collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the SMS framework aligned with regulatory requirements (ICAO, SACAA).
• Conduct regular safety risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
• Set up and manage a robust safety reporting system; analyze incidents.
• Develop and deliver safety training and awareness campaigns for all staff levels.
• Perform internal safety audits and inspections for compliance and improvements.
• Investigate safety deficiencies and recommend corrective actions with tracking.
• Maintain records of SMS activities, hazard logs, risk registers, and audit findings.
• Liaise with regulators and represent the organization during safety inspections.
• Promote a proactive safety culture via virtual channels and remote touchpoints.
• Stay updated with evolving aviation safety regulations and best practices.
