Cementation Africa invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Quality Control Assistant to be placed in Tharisa Mine. The successful candidate will report to the Safety Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Perform duties as prescribed by the MHSA and in line with Cementation Africa’s policies, procedures, standards, safety protocols and ISO certification requirements
- Timeously conduct quality inspections underground and/or on surface against set standards, and accurately record and report findings
- Plan, organise, schedule and coordinate quality, safety, and risk activities efficiently
- Effective implementation, monitoring, document control, business management system maintenance and reporting of risk and safety processes and initiatives
- Read and interpret engineering/construction/mining drawings and verify compliance with design requirements and applicable quality specifications
- Proactive risk identification, mitigation, and compliance within area of responsibility
- Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows and timeous reporting of unsafe acts / conditions
- Effective self-management in alignment with company values and leadership initiatives
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Mechanical / Mining Operations / Construction FET Certificate at NQF 4 or equivalent recognised technical qualification relevant to the mining discipline [essential]
- Introduction to ISO 9001 standard [essential]
- Higher Certificate in Total Quality Management / National Certificate Quality Management Systems or similar at NQF 5 [preferred]
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Must be physically fit to work underground
- Valid First Aid Certificate (If expired, successfully obtain in-house)
- Understanding of quality control and quality assurance processes and standards
- Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels
- Able to read and understand construction / mining / engineering drawings
- Analytical, systematic, observant, perceptive and attentive to detail
- Deadline driven with strong work ethic, planning and organising skills
- Assertive and able to work independently within the rules
- Able to conduct quality checks against OEM specifications and SANS standards
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience
- Minimum 3 years of mining and / or construction experience with exposure to quality control on a mining project
