Job summary

Cementation Africa invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Safety Officer Projects to be placed in Tharisa Mine. The successful candidate will report to the Safety Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position.

Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent required.
• Trade certificate in a safety-related field.
• Degree or Diploma in Safety, Risk, Health, Environment, Quality, Hygiene or Training Management preferred.
• COMSOC 1 and 2 certifications.
• Investigation / Tap Root training preferred.
• Audit certification (ISO 9001/14001, OHSAS 18001) advantageous.
• Valid First Aid Certificate

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and record findings.
• Understand accident / incident techniques.
• Carry out duties as prescribed in the Act.
• Inform management regarding unsafe working conditions.
• Compile reports to line management regarding unsafe acts and conditions.
• Facilitate and monitor risk assessment and Behaviour observation processes.
• Monitor campaigns, codes of practice and proactive safety measures.
• Facilitate corrective action processes and provide feedback to management.
• Receive and collate data from inspections, incidents and observations for review.

Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

• Conducting investigations and recording findings
• Understanding of accident / incident techniques
• Carrying out the duties as prescribed in the Act
• Informing management regarding any unsafe working conditions
• Compiling reports to line management regarding unsafe acts and conditions
• Facilitating and monitoring the risk assessment and the Behaviour observation processes
• Monitoring the effectiveness of the campaigns, codes of practice and proactive measures which have been put in place to support the Business Management System
• Facilitating and monitoring the corrective action process and providing feedback to management
• Receiving and collating data from inspections, incidents and observations for review by line management
• Sound understanding of Cementation Africa and client safety systems, policies and procedures
• Cementation Africa and client risk assessment methodologies and principles
• Sound knowledge of Rand Mutual processes

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
• Trade certificate
• Degree / Diploma in Safety, Risk, Health, Environment, Quality, Hygiene or Training Management (preferred)
• COMSOC 1 and 2
• Investigation / Tap Root training (preferred)
• Knowledge of Electrical Engineering
• Audit certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001
• Valid First Aid Certificate

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

• Supervisory experience (preferred)
• 3-5 years' mining sector experience
• Basic knowledge of mining operations and methods
• Basic knowledge of relevant safety principles and system
• Strata control knowledge
