Placements24 is seeking a Chemical Engineer specializing in Process Safety to join our client in Soweto, Gauteng. This pivotal role focuses on keeping chemical operations safe by leading risk assessments, developing safety protocols, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, at least 5 years in chemical engineering with strong PSM experience, and familiarity with PHA methods such as HAZOP/HAZID.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 5 years in chemical engineering with a focus on process safety.
• Strong knowledge of PSM elements, PHA methodologies and risk assessment.
• Familiar with safety legislation and standards (OSHA PSM, Seveso).
• CCPSC certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP, HAZID and What-If studies.
• Develop and maintain safety-critical procedures (MOC, PSSR, Mechanical Integrity).
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and actions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international process safety regulations.
• Provide training to engineering and operations personnel on process safety.
• Oversee mechanical integrity of critical process equipment.
• Participate in design reviews to embed safety from the start.
• Monitor safety metrics and report to management.
• Collaborate with site personnel to promote a strong safety culture.
