The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, at least 5 years in chemical engineering with strong PSM experience, and familiarity with PHA methods such as HAZOP/HAZID.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 5 years in chemical engineering with a focus on process safety.
• Strong knowledge of PSM elements, PHA methodologies and risk assessment.
• Familiar with safety legislation and standards (OSHA PSM, Seveso).
• CCPSC certification is highly desirable.

Our client, a prominent chemical manufacturing company, is seeking a dedicated Chemical Engineer with a specialization in Process Safety to join their team in Soweto, Gauteng . You will be responsible for conducting risk assessments, developing safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of process safety management (PSM) principles and have a proven ability to implement effective safety strategies in an industrial environment. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, HAZID, and What-If studies.
• Develop and maintain safety-critical procedures, including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Mechanical Integrity programs.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international process safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Provide training and guidance to engineering and operations personnel on process safety principles.
• Oversee the mechanical integrity of critical process equipment.
• Participate in design reviews for new projects and modifications to ensure safety is integrated from the outset.
• Monitor safety performance metrics and report on key indicators to management.
• Collaborate with site personnel to foster a strong safety culture throughout the organization in Soweto .

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical engineering, with a significant focus on process safety.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, PHA methodologies, and risk assessment techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant safety legislation and standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive).
• Experience with consequence modeling software is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Certification in Process Safety (e.g., CCPSC) is highly desirable.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa .
