Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for our client in Richards Bay, South Africa. The role focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, and robust safety management systems to protect personnel, environment, and assets.

You will conduct PHAs (HAZOP), implement PSM programs, ensure regulatory compliance, investigate incidents, and deliver safety training. A Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and at least six years of experience in process safety are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years in process safety engineering, preferably in petrochemical/chemical processing.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements (PHA, MOC, PSSR, Mechanical Integrity).
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and safety software.
• Strong understanding of hazardous materials and safety protocols.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management programs and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Investigate process safety incidents and determine root causes.
• Develop and deliver safety training for plant personnel.
• Maintain safety documentation (P&IDs, manuals, emergency plans).
