Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join our client in Richards Bay. You will drive safety across chemical processes and facilities, identifying hazards and developing robust protocols to protect personnel and the environment.

The role requires a bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, minimum 5 years in process safety, expertise in PHA methods (HAZOP/LOPA/FMEA), SIS, and incident investigations.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in process safety engineering, preferably in chemical or petrochemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, risk assessment methods, and safety regulations.
• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and emergency response planning.
• Strong analytical and report-writing skills; CSP certification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA).
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management programs and procedures.
• Investigate incidents and near misses; identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
• Develop and deliver safety training for employees and contractors.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations on safe facility design/modifications.
