Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety culture at a Richards Bay chemical facility. You will identify, assess, and mitigate process hazards, implement robust safety management systems and promote proactive safety across plant operations.

The role emphasizes developing procedures, conducting PHAs, and ensuring regulatory compliance with OSHA PSM/COMAH standards, while delivering training and maintaining safety information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical field.
• 7+ years of process safety, risk assessment and safety management experience in chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments.
• Familiarity with safety legislation and industry best practices (OSHA PSM, COMAH).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience near Richards Bay industrial area desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP and LOPA.
• Develop and implement safety procedures including MOC and PSSR.
• Investigate process safety incidents, near misses and deviations for root causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for plant personnel and management.
• Maintain and update process safety information (P&IDs, safety manuals, emergency plans).
