Job summary

Placements24 seeks a seasoned Process Safety Engineer to join their Paarl team. You will lead hazard analyses, develop safety procedures, and drive MOC, incident investigations, and training to uphold high safety standards across operations. A strong background in mechanical or chemical engineering and 5+ years in process safety is essential.

Based in the Western Cape, you’ll engage with cross-functional teams to foster a proactive safety culture and protect people, the environment, and assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering in industrial/manufacturing settings.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies, risk assessment techniques, and safety management systems.
• Familiarity with safety legislation and standards applicable in the Western Cape.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team and independently with a strong commitment to safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA for new and existing processes.
• Develop and implement safety procedures, management of change (MOC) protocols, and emergency response plans.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, industry standards (e.g., OSHA, COMAH), and best practices.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to relevant personnel.
• Maintain process safety information, including P&IDs, safety device data, and risk registers.
