About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their team based in Soweto . This role is fundamental to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of their facilities within the Oil & Gas industry . You will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards, implementing robust safety management systems, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position requires a proactive approach and a deep understanding of chemical processes and safety engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and maintain Process Safety Information (PSI) for all relevant processes.
• Implement and manage layers of protection analysis (LOPA) and ensure safety instrumented systems (SIS) integrity.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and implement procedures for management of change (MOC), pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and mechanical integrity.
• Ensure compliance with relevant process safety regulations and industry standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in Process Safety Engineering , preferably within the Oil & Gas sector .
• Strong knowledge of PHA methodologies, LOPA, and SIS design principles.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as API, CCPS, and OSHA PSM.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with operations teams.
