Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in process safety engineering in Oil & Gas or chemical processing.
• Strong knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and risk management.
• Familiarity with PSM elements and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical and data interpretation skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the Oil & Gas processing and refining sector , is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to bolster their team near East London . This vital role focuses on ensuring the safe design, operation, and maintenance of all process facilities, minimizing risks associated with hazardous materials and complex operations. You will be instrumental in implementing and maintaining robust process safety management systems, conducting hazard assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture. This position offers a critical contribution to operational integrity within a key industrial region of the South African energy industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment studies, including HAZOP, LOPA, and PHA.
• Develop and maintain safety critical procedures and safety device requirements.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant national and international process safety regulations .
• Provide training and guidance on process safety principles to operational personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably in Oil & Gas or chemical processing.
• Strong knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments, and risk management techniques.
• Familiarity with PSM elements and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret complex process diagrams and data.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for promoting safety culture.
