Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer in Centurion to drive hazard analysis, risk assessment, and robust safety management across oil and gas operations. You will coordinate PHAs (HAZOP/What-If/LOPA), implement MOC and PSSRs, and strengthen process safety performance.

The role requires a bachelor’s in chemical engineering and at least 6 years of experience in process safety, with strong regulatory knowledge and proven ability to lead safety improvements and training.

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of process safety experience in petrochemical/oil and gas.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety initiatives in Centurion . This role is paramount to ensuring the integrity and safety of our client's oil and gas operations , focusing on hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of robust safety management systems. You will play a key part in fostering a proactive safety culture, mitigating potential risks associated with chemical processes, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards. This position requires a meticulous approach and a strong commitment to operational safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies, for new and existing facilities.
• Develop and implement safety procedures, management of change (MOC) protocols, and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs).
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with process safety regulations, such as OSHA PSM or similar international standards.
• Maintain safety-related documentation, including safety critical equipment (SCE) lists and mechanical integrity programs.
• Promote a strong safety culture through training, communication, and engagement with site personnel and management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the petrochemical or oil and gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety management principles, hazard assessment methodologies, and safety systems design.
• Experience with safety integrity level (SIL) assessments and layer of protection analysis (LOPA).
• Familiarity with relevant safety codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent report writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
