Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join the Soweto-based team. The role focuses on grid stability, stability studies, and strategies to maintain reliability as renewables integrate into the grid.

The candidate will analyze complex grid dynamics, develop control schemes, and support grid operators with modelling and simulations to ensure compliance with codes and safeguard energy security in the region.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• 6+ years of experience in power system analysis with focus on grid stability.
• Experience with power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory DIgSILENT, or PSCAD.
• Deep knowledge of grid codes, protection systems, and control strategies for power systems.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate technical findings.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system stability studies, including transient, voltage, and frequency stability analysis.
• Develop and implement control strategies for maintaining grid stability under various operating conditions.
• Analyze the impact of renewable energy integration on grid performance and recommend mitigation measures.
• Collaborate with grid operators and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with grid codes and operational standards.
• Utilize advanced power system simulation software to model and predict grid behavior.
