Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to manage all payroll operations remotely. You will ensure accurate processing, handle PAYE, UIF, and SDL, and maintain compliant payroll records for the South African staff.

You will act as the primary contact for payroll inquiries, work autonomously in a remote setting, and uphold strict confidentiality while delivering timely, accurate payroll processing and reporting.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as Payroll Accountant/Payroll Administrator in a South African context.
• Strong knowledge of PAYE, UIF, SDL and related labour/tax legislation.
• Experience with VIP Payroll or Sage and proficient Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely weekly/bi-weekly/monthly payroll for all employees.
• Manage statutory deductions: PAYE, UIF, SDL with timely submissions.
• Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate discrepancies.

About the Role

You will be the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, working independently to resolve issues and ensure a smooth payroll experience for all staff. Key Responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely weekly/bi-weekly/monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring adherence to company policies and legal requirements.
• Manage all statutory deductions, including PAYE, UIF, and SDL, ensuring correct calculations and timely submissions to relevant authorities.
• Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate any discrepancies or anomalies.
• Maintain up-to-date employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in compensation or benefits.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, tax documentation, and statutory deductions promptly and professionally.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant labour laws and tax regulations pertaining to payroll.

Requirements

• Proven experience (3+ years) as a Payroll Accountant or Payroll Administrator, preferably in a South African context.
• Strong understanding of payroll processing, tax regulations (PAYE, UIF, SDL), and related legislation.
• Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., VIP Payroll, Sage) and MS Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, essential for managing tasks in a remote work environment.
