Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Mine Operations Manager to lead mining activities in the Mahikeng region, ensuring safety, productivity and efficiency. The role covers extraction through processing with a strong focus on cost control, budgets, and environmental standards.

The candidate should have a Mining Engineering degree (MBA advantageous) and a track record of managing large teams and achieving production targets in open pit and/or underground environments.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Mine Operations Manager to lead their mining operations in the Mahikeng region. This senior leadership role is responsible for the overall safety, productivity, and efficiency of the mining activities, from extraction to processing. You will manage a diverse team, ensuring adherence to operational plans, safety protocols, and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, a deep understanding of mining processes, and a proven ability to drive operational excellence in a challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of day-to-day mine operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and primary crushing.
• Ensure the implementation and enforcement of all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Develop and manage operational budgets, controlling costs while meeting production targets.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, engineers, and operational staff.
• Collaborate with planning, maintenance, and processing departments to ensure seamless operations.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field; an MBA or equivalent management qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a management role.
• Extensive knowledge of various mining methods (open pit and/or underground) and associated equipment.
• Proven track record in managing large operational teams and achieving production targets safely.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
