Placements24 seeks a seasoned Mine Operations Manager to lead major mining operations in Soweto. This senior role drives strategic and operational management, ensuring safe, efficient and profitable extraction of resources across underground or open-pit environments.

You will oversee production, planning, technical services, HR and financial performance, while guiding a multidisciplinary team and implementing new technologies to improve safety and efficiency.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Mine Operations Manager to lead their significant mining operations in the Soweto region. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of the mine, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable extraction of resources. You will oversee all aspects of underground or open-pit mining activities, including production, planning, technical services, human resources, and financial performance. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership qualities, extensive experience in mine management, and a proven ability to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement within a demanding mining environment , ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all day-to-day mining operations, including production, maintenance, and technical support.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve production targets, cost efficiencies, and safety objectives.
• Ensure strict adherence to all mine health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical field.

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
• Proven track record of successfully managing large‑scale mining operations (underground or open‑pit).
• Strong understanding of mine planning, geology, metallurgy, and processing.
• Demonstrated leadership, decision‑making, and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
