Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Mine Operations Superintendent to oversee daily production, safety and environmental performance in Vereeniging. You will lead a diverse operations team, optimizing resources and driving production toward targets with a strong safety culture.

The role requires a solid background in large-scale mining (underground or open-pit), and proven leadership, planning and problem-solving skills to manage complex operations and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years in mining with ≥4 years in supervisory/management.
• Experience in large-scale mining operations (underground or open-pit).
• Strong knowledge of mining methods, equipment, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in mine planning and production management software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily mine production, including drilling, blasting, loading and hauling.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental regulations and company policies are followed.
• Develop and implement operational plans to meet targets and quality standards.
• Manage costs, identifying efficiency improvements and cost savings.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of shift supervisors, operators and staff.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and training programs for the operations team.
• Oversee equipment utilization and maintenance for optimal performance.
