Job summary

Placements24 in Benoni is seeking a skilled Mine Geologist to join the operational team. The role focuses on providing geological support to production, updating models, and ensuring resource continuity for safe, efficient underground mining in Gauteng.

You will map mine workings, log cores, monitor grade variations, and contribute to short-term planning while collaborating with mine engineers and managers. Strong geology software skills preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Honours degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a Mine Geologist, preferably in underground hard-rock mining.
• Proficiency with geological modeling software (Leapfrog Mining, Vulcan).
• Strong understanding of structural geology and ore deposit characteristics.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail for accurate data collection.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with production personnel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping of underground mine workings and develop structural interpretations.
• Log diamond drill core and blast hole samples to update geological and grade models.
• Monitor and control grade and geological variations encountered during mining operations.
• Perform geological reconciliation between planned and actual mining results.
• Assist in the estimation of ore reserves and contribute to short-term mine planning.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and geological standards in all field activities.
