Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations near Vereeniging in Gauteng. The role focuses on assessing geological risks, ensuring stability of underground excavations and open-pit slopes, and delivering site investigations and analyses.

You will use Rocscience and FLAC, collaborate with mine planning, and contribute to safety and efficiency of major mining projects.

Qualifications

• MSc or MEng in Geotechnical/Mining Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years geotechnical engineering experience with mining focus.
• Proficiency with Rocscience suite and FLAC for analyses.
• Experience with site characterization and laboratory testing of rock and soil.
• Strong knowledge of SA geological conditions and mining practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations (drilling, sampling, in-situ testing).
• Perform stability analyses for underground excavations and open-pit slopes.
• Develop geotechnical monitoring programs and interpret data.
• Provide ground support design recommendations and excavation methodologies.
• Collaborate with mine planning/design teams to integrate geotechnical considerations.
