About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and growing distribution company based in Welkom, Free State, ZA , is seeking a dedicated and analytical Logistics Planner & Route Optimizer . This is an on-site position where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our client's transportation network. You will be responsible for planning and optimizing delivery routes, managing fleet resources, and coordinating with drivers and warehouse staff to achieve seamless logistical operations. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of logistics software, and a proven track record in route optimization. This role is essential for maintaining our client's competitive edge in the fast-paced transport industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement efficient delivery routes for the company fleet, minimizing travel time and fuel consumption.
• Utilize advanced route optimization software to plan daily, weekly, and monthly delivery schedules.
• Analyze transportation data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings.
• Coordinate with drivers to ensure adherence to optimized routes and schedules, addressing any deviations or issues.
• Manage fleet capacity and allocate vehicles and drivers effectively to meet delivery demands.
• Liaise with warehouse operations to ensure timely loading and readiness of goods for dispatch.
• Monitor traffic conditions, weather, and other external factors that may impact delivery times and adjust routes accordingly.
• Maintain accurate records of all planned routes, delivery times, and transportation costs.
• Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to understand delivery requirements and customer needs.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of logistical processes and systems.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in logistics planning, route optimization, or a similar transportation role.
• Proficiency with route planning and optimization software (e.g., RouteXL, OptimoRoute, or similar).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable plans.
• Excellent understanding of transportation principles, fleet management, and supply chain operations.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with drivers and other departments.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in planning and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Experience working within the South African transport landscape is advantageous.
