About the Role

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing optimal delivery routes for our fleet, focusing on minimizing travel time, fuel consumption, and delivery costs while maximizing service efficiency. This role requires a deep understanding of logistical software, data analysis, and the unique challenges of transportation networks. You will work closely with dispatch and operations teams to ensure routes are practical, safe, and meet client delivery windows. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, refine, and implement efficient delivery routes using specialized route optimization software (e.g., RouteXL, OptimoRoute, or similar).
• Analyze historical delivery data, traffic patterns, and geographical information to identify opportunities for route improvement.
• Continuously monitor route performance and make real-time adjustments based on changing conditions (e.g., traffic, weather, unexpected delays).
• Collaborate remotely with dispatchers, fleet managers, and drivers to gather feedback and ensure route feasibility and driver safety.
• Model various "what-if" scenarios to predict the impact of changes in fleet size, delivery areas, or service level agreements.
• Generate regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, mileage, fuel efficiency, and cost savings.
• Stay updated on industry best practices, new routing technologies, and regulatory changes affecting logistics.
• Provide training and support to operational staff on using route planning tools and adhering to optimized routes.
• Identify and flag potential risks or inefficiencies within the current delivery network and propose solutions.
• Contribute to long-term strategic planning for fleet deployment and network design.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Route Planner, Logistics Analyst, or similar role, with a strong focus on route optimization.
• Proficiency with route optimization software and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Excellent understanding of logistics, supply chain management, and transportation principles.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working with virtual teams.
• Familiarity with various vehicle types and their operational constraints is a plus.
• Knowledge of South African road networks and delivery challenges is advantageous.
• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, or a related field is preferred.
