Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a strong focus on structural engineering; Master's degree advantageous.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA is essential.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in structural design engineering.
• Experience designing structures with steel, concrete and other materials.
• Proficiency in SAP2000, ETABS, Revit Structure and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, finite element analysis and building codes.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team.
• Ability to manage multiple design tasks and meet deadlines.
• Experience with timber and masonry design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for a wide range of projects including commercial, residential and industrial facilities.
• Develop detailed structural drawings, specifications and design reports using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate with architects, other engineering disciplines and clients throughout the design process.
• Review and approve shop drawings, calculations and submissions from contractors.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS and building codes.
• Manage design-related aspects of projects ensuring delivery within timelines and budgets.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and drafters.
• Conduct site visits for inspections and construction support as needed.
• Stay updated on advancements in structural engineering technology and methodologies.
• Contribute to development of design standards and best practices within the team.
