Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations for large-scale events in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will lead a team of kitchen staff, contribute to menu development, and manage inventory and food costs.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years in a similar role, strong culinary skills, and a proactive leadership style to maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and safety during corporate functions,

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years as Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie in a high-volume catering or hotel environment.
• Proficient in a wide range of cooking techniques and cuisines.
• Experience leading a kitchen team.
• Knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills; multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen management and operations.
• Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes and quality standards.
• Ensure efficient workflow in the kitchen, managing prep, cooking, and plating for timely service.
• Contribute to menu planning, recipe development, and costing.
• Manage inventory, including ordering supplies, receiving deliveries, and maintaining proper storage.
• Monitor and control food costs, implementing strategies to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
• Enforce strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
• Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure a clean and organized workspace.
• Step in for the Head Chef when necessary and assume responsibility for kitchen operations.
• Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless event execution.
