Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer for a major power projects near George, Western Cape. You will lead the commissioning team, develop detailed testing procedures, and oversee on-site energization and handover activities for high‑voltage systems.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in electrical commissioning of power projects, strong knowledge of HV equipment, protection and control systems, and a proven track record in safety and client liaison.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in electrical systems commissioning for power projects.
• Experience with high-voltage equipment testing and protection systems.
• Familiarity with IEC and IEEE standards.
• Proven leadership of a commissioning team on site.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute electrical commissioning plans and procedures for power generation and distribution systems.
• Lead and supervise the commissioning team, ensuring safe and efficient testing and energization.
• Perform pre-commissioning checks, functional and integrated tests on HV switchgear, transformers, generators, protection relays, and control systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues identified during commissioning.
• Liaise with project management, clients, consultants, and equipment suppliers to coordinate commissioning activities.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations, site procedures, and project specifications.
• Review and approve commissioning documentation, including test reports and handover certificates.
• Manage interface between different electrical systems and other disciplines during commissioning.
• Provide technical guidance to site personnel and junior engineers.
