Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Instrumentation Technician for upstream operations in Paarl. You will maintain, calibrate and repair instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe, efficient oil & gas production.

The role involves troubleshooting instrument loops (DCS/PLC) and performing scheduled maintenance in a challenging environment. Responsibilities include reading P&IDs, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician.
• Experience in oil & gas or process industry preferred.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client requires a skilled and dedicated Instrumentation Technician to join their upstream operations team in Paarl. This role is essential for the maintenance, calibration, and repair of critical instrumentation and control systems that ensure the safe and efficient operation of oil and gas production facilities. You will be responsible for troubleshooting instrumentation issues, performing scheduled maintenance, and ensuring the reliability of measurement and control devices. This position offers hands-on experience within the challenging environment of the Oil & Gas industry in the Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair a wide range of instrumentation, including pressure transmitters, flow meters, and control valves.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in instrument loops and control systems (DCS, PLC).
• Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks according to schedules and procedures.
• Ensure all instrumentation work complies with company standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, calibrations, and repairs.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician, preferably in the Oil & Gas or process industry.
• Proficiency in calibrating and maintaining various types of instruments and control devices.
• Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and intrinsic safety principles.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding operational environment.
• Strong understanding of safety procedures and work permits.
