Placements24 is seeking an Instrumentation Technician for a power generation facility near Upington. The role covers installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems to ensure safe, efficient plant operation.

Ideal candidates will have a trade qualification in Instrumentation with at least 4 years of experience in heavy industry, familiarity with Rosemount and Yokogawa instruments, and strong safety awareness in hazardous areas.

Qualifications

• Proficient in calibrating and maintaining instrumentation including transmitters and control valves.

Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, and maintain process instruments and control systems.

• Read instrumentation diagrams, loop sheets, and P&IDs.
• Perform routine checks on valves, transmitters and sensors.
• Work with PLC and DCS to ensure reliable processes.

Our client requires a skilled Instrumentation Technician to join their operational team at a power generation facility near Upington. This role is critical for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of essential instrumentation and control systems that ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant. You will work with a variety of instruments, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters, as well as control valves and associated systems. The ideal candidate is meticulous, technically proficient, and committed to upholding high safety and performance standards in a demanding industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, and maintain a wide range of process instruments and control systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation faults, ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations.
• Read and interpret instrumentation diagrams, loop sheets, and P&IDs.
• Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on control valves, transmitters, and sensors.
• Work with PLC and DCS systems to ensure proper functioning of automated processes.
• Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Trade qualification (e.g., NQF Level 4/5) in Instrumentation or relevant field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician, preferably in a power generation or heavy industrial setting.
• Proficiency in calibrating and maintaining various types of instrumentation (e.g., Rosemount, Yokogawa).
• Experience with control valve maintenance and tuning.
• Understanding of hazardous area classifications and associated safety requirements.
• Strong diagnostic skills and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
