Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Instrumentation Technician to maintain and repair instrumentation and control systems at power generation facilities in Bloemfontein. You will install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and document sensors, transmitters and analysers to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Role requires a National Diploma or N6 in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering with 4+ years’ industrial experience, plus PLC/DCS exposure and calibration skills.

Qualifications

• A National Diploma or N6 in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field is required.
• 4+ years’ instrumentation experience in an industrial setting, preferably power generation or process industry.
• Experience with PLC/DCS systems and related communication networks (Profibus, Modbus) is essential.

Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain and repair instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, controllers and analysers.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure readiness.
• Troubleshoot faults in control loops and instrumentation; read P&IDs and drawings to guide maintenance.
• Document maintenance activities and calibration records in CMMS.
• Ensure work adheres to safety procedures and energy sector regulations.
• Maintain safety and reliability of energy infrastructure in Bloemfontein.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Instrumentation Technician to join their dedicated team managing power generation facilities in Bloemfontein , as part of the wider Energy Sector . This role is critical for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated instrumentation and control systems that ensure the safe and efficient operation of our power plants. You will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards of operational reliability and performance expected in this demanding industry. This is a hands‑ on role for a technically proficient individual eager to contribute to South Africa's energy infrastructure in Bloemfontein .

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair a wide range of instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and analysers used in power plant operations .
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on instrumentation systems to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in control loops, PLCs, DCS, and associated field instrumentation.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals to effectively perform maintenance and repair tasks.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety procedures, company policies, and relevant Energy Sector regulations.
• Document all maintenance activities, findings, and calibration records accurately in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) in Bloemfontein .

Requirements

• National Diploma or N6 in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician in an industrial environment, preferably within power generation or a similar process industry.
• Strong knowledge of various instrumentation principles, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement.
• Experience with PLC/DCS systems and troubleshooting communication networks (e.g., Profibus, Modbus).
• Proficiency in using calibration equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Commitment to safety and a strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation safety practices in the Energy Sector .
